The Two Month Karma Yoga program introduces you to Ashram life and the practice of Karma Yoga as a spiritual practice. You will learn about selfless service by supporting a variety of Ashram areas in accordance with needs and interests.

The Returning Karma Yoga program is only for those who already have significant Karma Yoga experience at the Ashram. Significant Karma Yoga experience can be gained through the Two Month Karma Yoga Program, the Yoga Journey extension, or the Yoga Development Course extension. Returning karma yogis can apply for a period of one week to three months, with extensions possible by discussion when you are at the Ashram.

Emergency Medical Services

The Ashram is at least one and a half hours from the nearest hospital and three hours from larger hospitals with specialized services. Because of the Ashram’s isolated rural setting, ambulance services are not always immediately available; at best an ambulance takes half an hour or longer to arrive on the Ashram site. Although the Ashram has basic first aid and a medical clinic is nearby, the clinic is only open three days per week and is without emergency service; accordingly the Ashram’s ability to respond to medical situations is limited. Given our remote location, health services can be quite costly for individuals who do not have adequate health insurance coverage. For example, one trip to the hospital in an ambulance costs about $400, just for the trip alone!

Financial Considerations

This is a no-fee Karma Yoga training program funded by donations given in the spirit of generosity. Your accommodations, food, yoga and other skills training are offered at no charge. We do, however, need you to ensure you have sufficient funds to cover your personal expenses before submitting this application.

Karma yogis typically require approximately $100 per month to cover personal expenses including internet fee ($20 /month), laundry and gift store purchases. Below, please confirm you have the funds available to cover these expenses.

Contributions and Donations

We invite you to consider making a contribution to mitigate the cost of your stay and to help keep this program running. A donation tax receipt will be issued for any contributions over $2568/month, which is the estimated value of accommodations, food and programming. That said, there are no expectations related to your contribution amount - whatever you can genuinely afford after considering your personal financial needs and wish to give from the heart will be deeply appreciated. Please indicate below the total amount you wish to give. You will be asked to pay this amount upon arrival at the Ashram.

Agreement

When you are accepted into the Karma Yoga Program at Yasodhara Ashram you will be asked to complete an agreement taking full responsibility for yourself physically and emotionally. We have guidelines in the community that you will be asked to follow, including refraining from recreational drugs and alcohol and focusing on your inner spiritual development through the practice of celibacy. You will also confirm your understanding that Karma Yoga is selfless service without monetary reward.
